Nest #8 status and archive, 2012-13
Banded female #2851. Female #2851, 11 years old. This pair was in our study last year. Students in Mrs. Lorraine Leo's classes in Jackson School in Newton, Massachusetts named the female Penny. Students in Mr. Mikhail Timonin's class in Tarkanovo Secondary School in the Republic of Mordovia, Russia named the male Vasya. The female has not raised chicks every year, but successfully raised 2 chicks the last two years. We hope she can do the same this year. Their nest is on a slope and they are surrounded by many other penguins. This should be a secure place.. Last year the first egg was laid on Nov 13th. Let's see what happens this year.
Dec 6. Penny and Vasya are gone and so are both the eggs. We do not know what happened. Skuas probably did not get this nest, so it may have been some fighting among the neighbors that caused the eggs to roll out. We are very sad.

First egg: Nov 17th.
Second egg: We saw it for the first time on Nov 23. It was probably laid about the 19th.
