Nest # 2 status and archive, 2014-15

Nov 8, 2014 This male, banded #4235, is 8 years old and rasied chicks the last two years near this same nesting site. We hope the same female comes back. He was hatched in 2006. The male is Toby and his mate is Sarah, named by Susan Withnell's class in Linton Springs, Sykesville, MD. First eggs sighted Nov 18th.

Dec 2, 2014. The nest of Male #4235 has been taken over by another bird. We see this sometimes. A non-paired bird will come into the colony and push a nesting bird off the eggs and take over the nest. It usually invovles a fight and this time was no exception. The eggs were scattered and although the aggresive bird successfully took over the nest, the eggs are gone. The agressive bird is banded #6550 and was in this breeding colony last last year. We are going to reassign Nest #2 to another banded pair breeding very close to Nest #10.

Dec 3. Introducing banded male #4355 and his mate. He is 8 years old and has been in the Centerfield breeding group for several years. We hope this pair will be successful in raising a chick. We do not know when these eggs were laid but belive around Nov 18th. We will look forward to seeing the chicks hatch. The male is Luke and his mate is Tess, named by Susan Withnell's class at Linton Springs School, Sykesville, MD.

Dec 17, 2014 The first chick has hatched. Dec 18, the second chick has hatched. Their names are Walden, and Fluffy, adopted by Suzanne Tef's 1st grade class at Walden Academy, Winters, Caif.

Sarah is back and on the nest, 2 eggs An aggressive penguin (band #6550) has taken over this nest. We did not see the fight, but feel sure there was one. Our pair is gone, the eggs are scattered. This banded bird may sit here for a while, but the nest is lost. Our new female, Tess, is on the nest with 2 eggs Tess is on the nest with 2 eggs
