Nest #3 status and archive, 2012-13
Nov 12. This breeding pair will be new to our study. The banded bird is 6 years old, but we do not know if it's a male or a female. It is very difficult to tell the male penguins from female penguins. We must wait to see specific behavior before we know for sure. We will update this information if we see some. The bird has mated and built nests in the past and last year there were two eggs, but neither one hatched. Their nest is high on a rocky ridge where it is very windy, we wish them luck and will watch them everyday. Niki Schaefer's and Ms Horn's classes at Scott Elementary School in Mascoutah, IL have named this pair. The banded bird is Colby and the un-banded bird is Popper. .
Dec 7, The nest has failed. There are no eggs and both adults have left. We are very sad at this development, but will add another nest to our study. See our new Nest #9. We do not know what happened.
