Nest #3 status and archive 2017-18

This banded female, #3809, was hatched in 2003. She is now 14 years old. She was first seen at Cape Royds in Dec. 2006, but did not breed until 2008. There have been several nests since then, many have failed and last year she bred did not produce an egg. This year she and her mate have a well protected nest in the Rocks. This pair has been named by Shelley Stout's and Jennifer Otto's 7th grade classes at Mount View MS, Howard Co, MD. They are Shrek and Fiona

The first egg was seen on Nov 9, 2017. Second egg was seen on Nov 12. We hope she and her mate will raise healthy chicks this year.

First chick hatched Dec. 14th, second on Dec. 15th. They have been names Chole and Cole by the students in Genny Kahlweiss' class at Saint Columban School, Garden Grove, Calif.

Jan 15, 2018. This penguin pair was successful in raising one very large chick. We will look for the adults to return next year. Chole will spend the next few years out on the ice and may return when she is around 4 years old to create her own family.
