Nest #7 status and archive, 2017-18

Female #3943. This banded female has been in our study before and has had different nests and different mates. She is 13 years old and had her first nest in 2009 when she was 5 years old. She has been in this nest with this mate for the last several seasons. The male arrived early and mated with a different female ( see pictures) but on Nov 11 #3943 showed up and took both her nest and her mate back. We do not know where the other female went. There were no eggs, but we will expect some now. This year her names will be Luna and her mate Pablo. They are named by Melanie Poknis' class at Thomas Viaduct MS in Howard Co, MD,

First egg was seen on Nov 17, 2017

First chick was seen on Dec 23, 2017, second chick Dec 24.

Dec 30. Both chicks are dead. Luna did not return in time with food, it is a sad day.
