Cape Royds is a remote field station on Ross Island, Antarctica. We are 25 miles from the largest US research station, McMurdo, where about 800 people work and do science. Our field station is devoted to working with the Adelie Penguins who come here every year to raise their chicks. They need ice-free land with small rocks to build their nests and Cape Royds is one of the few places in Antarctica where that occurs. From mid November to late January we are here working with the penguins and live in the hut you see below. Our penguin cam down near the colony takes a picture every day (when the sun is up) of the birds and records the weather. You can see those pictures and data HERE.
