Echo is gone and many of the rocks of this nest are gone. Joey never came back.

Nest #1 Status and Archives, 2017-2018

This male, banded #1050, has been in our study the last five years and raised chicks in 4 of them. Sadly last year his nest, along with many of the others, failed. The sea ice never broke out and the trip for food took too long. This year he has made a strong nest near the same spot as before and we belive he has the same mate. He is 16 years old, hatched in 2001 and returned to Cape Royds for the first time in 2003 as a 2 year old. You can compare how this pair raised chicks in the past five seasons by clicking HERE. In 2016 the first egg was laid Nov 9, the second on Nov 12.

This year the first egg was seen on Nov 12 and the second on Nov 17.

First chick hatched Dec 16.

Dec 22. One chick has been lost, Joey took too long to return with food.

This pair is Joey and Echo.
