Banded Bird #5197, Male
This bird is 11 years old and was in our study last year. They were not able to raise a chick last year as another bird disrupted the nest and the chick was lost. Go HERE to see what happened in 2017-18. This year they have built a nest a few feet away. The female showed up on Nov. 1 and is probably the same mate from last year. They are in the Cliff breeding group, just above the water with lots of neighbors to help fend off the Skuas. Lets see how this breeding season turns out for them.
This pair has been named Alex and Ashley by the Second grade students in Mrs Volak's class at JM Grasse ES in Sellersville, PA.
The chicks have been named Opal and Onyx by the students in Therese Hood's class at Gateway ES, in Fort Myers, FL.
First egg: Nov 7, 2018, Second egg Nov 10, 2018
First chick: Dec 11, 2018, 34 days since the first egg was laid.
Jan 14, 2019. Our last picture of this penguin family. They have raised two healthy chicks and we wish them well over the winter. Check back with us in Nov 19 to see if Alex or Ashley return.
